WE ALL COME TO LEARN LIFE LESSONS. Some are easy and some lead you to question your entire existence. Each of us has a very personalised curriculum, and our classes are suited to our timetable. Due to decisions that I had not been consulted about because I was a child I one day found myself worlds away from the lights, sounds, and comforts of Nairobi in the classroom of my life in a rural village. All of us will have a different scenario, but we will learn these lessons, or they keep repeating themselves. I know all about those red markings and endless corrections.
I ended up behind a wall on the cricket field, not as a spectator, but as a fugitive from my own life. Limiting bits of misinformation that I fed so much that I ended up eating my lunch in self-imposed exile (the COVID-experts would be proud!). But my lesson was not about how to be invisible; my lesson was how to be invincible. To step over the shadow of my old self so that I surge forward. My company does exactly that. Helping women, young and old, in waiting, to embrace their purpose, stand together, and build together.
In the throes of my childhood drama, I vowed to leave Mzambarauni and never go back. Today 35 years later I own a home in the very same Mzambarauni. People come full circle. I recall leaving for hotel school, I looked at the village in the rear-view mirror and bidding it a sure Sayonara, determined we would never meet again. But I came to realise that I gained many lessons and strength from that period. There is definitely something to be said for roots. And for awakening. It is different now, not because time has passed, but because I am different. My perspectives had matured and broadened. I have learned and the teacher has disappeared. Now onto the next lesson for me.
I am passionate about sharing my journey and encouraging women to rejoice in their progress toward that sweet spot where all that matters is themselves as they were meant to be. From this comes the power to support, uplift, and influence others. Perfect in her courage is the feminine captivation of a woman bravely actualizing her true potential. We need it. Our partners, children, families, and communities will prosper because we learned to make one better choice, or loved ourselves a little more, or unapologetically pursued our purpose. Africa needs our Awakening.
